Remedial Massage

Massage helps to tone and relax muscles and to stimulate the body’s fluids and circulation. It is also great for mobilising toxins and removing wastes, therefore allowing fresh oxygen and nutrients to rejuvenate and replenish every cell, assisting in faster recovery from injury and illness. Massage enables your practitioner to treat soft tissue damage, enhance movements and function and to alleviate pain. It is designed for treating problems such as sports injury, stress and tension and overworked or fatigued muscles. It is also effective in helping with arthritic and back pain.

Styles of massage offered include Chinese Oriental. sports, remedial, relaxation and deep tissue.

Moxibustion (Top)

The use of moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment that assists in dispelling cold and damp from the body. It is useful in helping with a wide range of conditions, including aches and pains, colds and flu, and even poor digestion.

Moxibustion is the burning of an herb called Mugwort. When burnt, its warming nature is useful for helping to expel cold and damp from the body as well as warming the body’s channels.  The bitter and acrid aspects of Mugwort help to break stagnation, clear phlegm, and rectify the qi and blood.  Moxibustion can be considered to be a parallel therapy to acupuncture, being used to stimulate qi flow at points on the body that are selected for their specific function.

Cupping (Top)

Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (either by heat or suction) in order to draw and hold skin and superficial muscles inside the cup. Sometimes, while the suction is active, the cup is moved, causing the skin and muscle to be pulled. This is called gliding cupping.

Cupping is normally used for musculoskeletal pain, but can also be used in a number of other conditions.

From a scientific standpoint, cupping is known to help activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, and is good for deep tissue repair.

Electro-Acupuncture (Top)

Electroacupuncture is quite similar to traditional acupuncture in that the same points are stimulated during treatment. As with traditional acupuncture, needles are inserted on specific points along the body. The needles are then attached to a device that generates continuous electric pulses using small clips. These devices are used to adjust the frequency and intensity of the impulse being delivered, depending on the condition being treated. Electroacupuncture uses two needles at time so that the impulses can pass from one needle to the other. Several pairs of needles can be stimulated simultaneously, usually for no more than 30 minutes at a time.

NB: Contraindicated for patients with pacemaker/defibrillator
